Joseph Cockshoot founded the company in Manchester in 1844 and had been apprenticed to his uncle, also Joseph Cockshoot, so the company was a direct offshoot of a much earlier company. Motor Car body construction started around the turn of the century, a Velox car with a Cockshoot body was exhibited at the Agricultural Hall, Islington in 1903, and at about this time an agency was held for renault cars for which many bodies were built.
